Nachos were invented in 1943 in Piedras Negras, Mexico, just across the border from Eagle Pass, Texas. A group of wives of U.S. soldiers stationed at Fort Duncan visited the restaurant where Ignacio 'Nacho' Anaya worked. Unable to find a chef, Anaya improvised a snack with what he had on hand: tortilla chips, cheese, and jalapeños.

Nachos offer a delightful combination of savory, spicy, and creamy flavors, creating a satisfying and addictive snack or meal.
The base of crispy tortilla chips provides a salty and crunchy foundation. Melted cheese, often cheddar or Monterey Jack, adds a rich, savory, and gooey element. Jalapeños contribute a spicy kick that can range from mild to intense. Salsa offers a tangy and fresh component with flavors of tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and sometimes chili peppers. Guacamole, made from mashed avocados, provides a creamy, cool, and earthy contrast. Sour cream adds a tangy and cooling effect, balancing the spice and richness.

Layering is Key
Instead of piling all the toppings on top, layer the chips, cheese, and other ingredients for more even distribution and better melting.
Pre-Warm the Chips
Slightly warming the tortilla chips before adding toppings can help the cheese melt more evenly and prevent soggy chips.
Use Quality Cheese
Opt for freshly grated cheese over pre-shredded varieties, as it melts more smoothly and has a richer flavor. Monterey Jack, cheddar, or a blend of both work well.
Prevent Soggy Chips
Baking nachos at a higher temperature for a shorter time can help prevent the chips from becoming soggy. Also, avoid using watery toppings in excess.
